Gardeners/Landscapers

Gardeners and landscapers are responsible for designing, maintaining, and enhancing outdoor spaces, including residential gardens, commercial properties, and public parks. They ensure that plants, trees, and lawns are healthy, aesthetically pleasing, and well-maintained.

Duties

1. Design and Planning

◦ Collaborate with clients to develop landscape designs that meet their needs and preferences.
◦ Select appropriate plants, trees, shrubs, and other materials based on the climate, soil, and aesthetic goals.

2. Planting and Maintenance

◦ Plant flowers, trees, shrubs, and grass according to the landscape design.
◦ Regularly water, fertilize, and prune plants to promote healthy growth.
◦ Mulch, weed, and aerate soil to maintain garden health and appearance.

3. Lawn Care

◦ Mow, edge, and maintain lawns to keep them neat and tidy.
◦ Apply pesticides and herbicides as needed to control pests and weeds.
◦ Repair and reseed damaged areas of the lawn.

4. Irrigation Systems

◦ Install and maintain irrigation systems to ensure proper watering of plants and lawns.
◦ Adjust and repair systems as necessary to prevent overwatering or water waste.

5. Hardscaping

◦ Install and maintain hardscaping elements such as patios, walkways, retaining walls, and fences.
◦ Ensure proper drainage and structural integrity of hardscaped areas.

6. Seasonal Tasks

◦ Prepare gardens for seasonal changes, including planting seasonal flowers, removing leaves, and winterizing plants.
◦ Clear snow, ice, and debris from outdoor areas during the winter months (if applicable).

Pay

Entry-Level Gardeners/Landscapers

Typically earn between $15 to $25 per hour, depending on the region and the complexity of the work.

Experienced Gardeners/Landscapers

Can earn between $25 to $40 per hour, or an annual salary ranging from $40,000 to $60,000, especially for those with specialized skills in design or horticulture.

Landscaping Managers/Designers

Those with management roles or advanced design expertise can earn between $50,000 to $80,000 or more annually.
